Former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan dies at 84, PM Modi pays tribute

Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan (K. Kasturirangan), former president of ISRO, died today at Bengaluru, April 25. He was 84 years old. He suffered age -related health problems.

According to the Isro website, Kasturirangan has directed the Indian Space Program gloriously for about nine years as president of the Indian Space Research Organization, of the Space Commission and Secretary of the Government of India in the Department of Space, before placing his office.

He was previously director of the Isro Satellite Center, where he supervised the activities related to the development of the new generation spacecraft, the Indian remote detection satellites (IRS-1A and 1B), as well as scientific satellites.

Publishing in X, Prime Minister Modi wrote: “I am deeply saddened by the death of Dr. K. Kasturirangan, an imposing figure in the scientific and educational journey of India. His visionary leadership and his selfless contribution to the nation are always remembered.”

“It served Isro with great diligence, he directed the space program of India at new heights, for which we also recognize. His leadership also launches white satellite and focused on innovation,” Modi added.
