Injuries reported after ‘massive’ blast at Iran’s port city of Bandar Abbas | News

Several people have been injured after a massive explosion and a fire in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, more than 1000 km (620 miles) south of the capital, Tehran, according to the state media.

Iran’s Customs Authority said in a statement that Saturday’s explosion occurred in the SINA container courtyard, which is affiliated with the ports and the maritime organization.

Mehrad Hassanzadeh, director of the crisis management organization in the province of Hormozgan, told state television that the injured have been transferred to medical facilities, but did not say how many were injured.

Previously, the ports of Hormozgan and the maritime administration official Estmaeil Malekizadeh, said the explosion toks place near the dock of the port of Shahid Rajaee.

The videos of social networks showed a huge black smoke plume that rose from the explosion area.

Other social networks videos showed damage to buildings and vehicles. There were also several people around the area by reviewing the damage to the property.

The port of Shahid Rajahei mainly handles container traffic and also has oil tanks and other petrochemical facilities.
