Prince William joined world leaders when he represented his father, King Charles, at the funeral of Pope Francis in the city of Vatican on Saturday morning.
The future 42 -year -old king arrived at the Plaza de San Pedro just after 9:30 am, local time without his wife Kate Middleton.
The Kensington Palace confirmed that the Duke of Wales would travel to the city of the Vatican for the funeral.
William, dressed in a blue suit and a black tie, sat next to the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the king of Jordan Abdullah and Queen Rania.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer also represented the United Kingdom in the city of the Vatican.
Other foreign dignitaries included President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, French president Emmanuel Macron and the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The late Pontiff, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, died just after 7:30 am on April 21 after suffering a stroke and falling into a coma.
King Charles paid tribute to Francis, but said he would not attend the funeral, citing the real protocol.
“My wife and I were very deeply saddened upon learning the death of Pope Francis,” Charles said. “However, our heavy hearts have relieved a bit to know that holiness could share a Easter greeting with the Church and the world that served with such devotion through their life and ministry.
“The queen and I remember with particular affection our meetings with her holiness over the years and we were very touched to have a leg capable of visiting it earlier than the month.”

The trio with private for about 20 minutes when the meeting marked the last time with the Pope with a head of state before his death.
The 76 -year -old monarch said he would not attend the funeral, citing the real sovereign protocol that do not attend funerals, according to Vanity Fair.
Charles attended the last state funeral of a Pope, Pope John Paul II in 2005 instead of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
