Roger Goodell offers twist to offset NFL draft being too long

It is not frequent that anything from Roger Goodell be with acclamation.

Speaking on Friday at “The Pat McAfee Show”, however, Goodell could have found an exception.

“I started to think last night that we have to shorten [the draft]”Goodell said.” … I am inventing it, seven minutes, first round, but you can get two more minutes if you need it. You could call it, but then you don’t get the rest of the draft again. “

Given how the first particular round can be dragged for hours, it is difficult to believe that this would not be universally popular among fans.

The first round of Thursday lasted almost four hours, from 8 pm to 11:43, when the Chiefs made the 32nd team.

There is some precedent for the NFL to change the draft format.

In 2007, the timer shortened 15 minutes in the first round to 10, and three years after that, an additional day was added, and the draft went from a weekend issue to Thursday on Saturday.

The equipment can oppose a change, since it would give them less time to consider selections or make exchanges.

However, an obvious counter -argument is that many exchanges are produced when the clock is shorts in posterior rounds. The time that Goodell proposes to be out of place tasks would probably be superfluous given that.

Dismain three minutes when choosing the first round, 96 minutes in total saved? So the first round of this year, for example, would have ended at 10:07, a much tastier moment for spectators, especially on the east coast and on a week of the ship.

Of course, that could also equate less advertising income, so ESPN may not be aligned behind the idea.

However, for fans, one imagines that this would be one of the most popular ideas that Goodell has put the forest, if you can take it from Mcafee to the podium next year in Pittsburgh.
