Operai said Wednesday night that he hired Fidji Simo, the Executive Director of Instacart, to assume a new role that manages the business and operations teams of the artificial intelligence company.
In a blog post, Sam Altman, Executive Director of Openai, said he would remain in charge as the company’s head. But the appointment of Mrs. as a executive director of the requests would free it to concentrate on other parts of the organization, including research, computer science and security systems, he said.
“We have become a global product company that serves hundreds of millions of users worldwide and growing very quickly,” Altman said in the blog post. He added that Openi also had to be “infrastructure company” that delivered artificial intelligence tools at scale.
“Each of these is a massive effort that could be their own big company,” he wrote. “Bringing exceptional leaders is a key part of doing well.”
Mrs. Simo, a member of the OpenAi Board, will supervise sales, marketing and finance. She will inform Mr. Altman.
Openai, who ignited a frenzy over AI with his chatpt chatbot, has grown rapidly and has juggled with multiple initiatives, sometimes without success. The San Francisco company has constantly launched new models and AI products, including systems that can “reason”. In March, he completed an agreement to increase $ 40 billion funds, led by the Japanese conglomerate softban, which valued it at $ 300 billion and made it one of the most valuable private partners in the world.
But Openi, which was created as a non -profit, has struggled to adopt a new corporate structure. As the commercial attraction of artificial intelligence has grown, the company had tried to withdraw from control by the non -profit organization. That attracted the scrutiny of critics such as Elon Musk, a founder of Openi who demanded the company and accused or put profits ahead of the safety of AI. The General Prosecutors of California and Delaware also analyzed restructuring.
On Monday, Openai retreated in the plan and said he would allow the lack of profit to retain his control over the company.
(The New York Times has sued Openai and his partner, Microsoft, accusing the issue of copyright infringement regarding the content of news related to AI systems. Openai and Microsoft have denied those statements).
In a statement on Wednesday night, Mrs. Simo said that Openai “has the potential to accelerate human potential at a rate never seen before and I am deeply committed to shape the thesis applications towards the public good.”
He added in a memorandum to instacart employees who had a “passion for AI and, in particular, because of the potential to cure diseases” and that “the ability to carry such an important part of our collective future was a difficult opportunity to let pass.”
Mrs. Simo Willin will remain in Instacart for the next few months, since the company names a successor, a role that said Bew will be occupied by a member of the Instant Management team. It will also remain at the company’s board as its president.
“Today’s announcement is not a reflection of any change in our business or operations,” said Instacart in a statement.
