Lionel Messi could remain in pink and black for the near future. David Ornstein of The Ahletic reports that Messi is close to accepting a contract extension with Inter Miami CF.

Messi, 37, who arrived at Inter Miami in July 2023, will see the current contract expire at the end of this year. The team has been working hard to extend its time in southern Florida in an effort that Messi guides the club to its new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, next season.

Inter Miami manager, Jorge Mas, told FDP Radio Miami that negotiations are progressing and hopes to end Messi agreeing to extend his time with the club. “My hope has always been, and all we are doing is to see Messi play in our new stadium in 2026. Happily, that happens,” Radio Miami told FDP.

Lionel Messi who stays with Inter Miami would be a huge impulse for Major League Soccer, who hopes to capitalize on the player that many are one of the best that the game has ever played. It would also mean a lot for the sponsors of the league, particularly Apple and Adidas, to continue with the participation of Messi in the league to the world. For Inter Miami, it means that its captain could end the year with the club in its temporary stadium, Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The club is expected to move the Miami Freedom Park, its new stadium that has a stone shot from Miami International Airport and will accommodate 25,000 people, on time for the beginning of the 2026 season, and have Lionel Messi in the team will be the largest sales.

FIFA also expects a contract extension to mean that Messi’s time with Argentina’s national team has not been carried out either. Sign an extension with Inter Miami would point to many who will play in the World Cup next summer.

While many are increasingly trusting that the agreement for a contract extension will be done, the work still remains to be accepted. As the terms of Messi’s initial contract included a large number of various income contributions and salary contributions of the other equipment in MLS, there is likely that there are many details to navigate before the paper is run to the paper. However, the idea that Messi continues his time in the MLS surely has the League, Inter Miami and enthusiastic football fans.
