Berlin (AP) – A German court has folded a man for falling into a convoy Vip for Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz in 2023 and giving him a hug while preparing to board a plane at Frankfurt airport, according to the German news agency DPA.
The court gave the 50 -year -old man a fine of 4,500 euros ($ 5,093) and a two -year driving prohibition to endanger road traffic along with the transfer, DPA reported on Tuesday. The name of man was not made public according to German privacy rules.
The hug caused Scholz’s security investigation. The chancellor was unharmed. It happened when Plaice returned to Berlin after a celebration for the 25th anniversary of the European Central Bank.
Scholz spokesman Wolfang Buchner told journalists that the German leader “did not feel threatened at any time.”
The defendant was under the influence of drugs and only partial responsibilities were found for the crime, DPA reported. The man apologized in the courtroom.
Scholz’s days as Chancellor are in the end. The German Parliament plans to meet on May 6 to choose Friedrich Merz as the next leader of the country, if all parties in his government propose a coalition agreement reached last week.
