Parts of Hawaii hit with snow — but don’t worry, it’s actually normal

He snowed in Hawaii on Friday.

While most of the state enjoys a tropical climate throughout the year, the Hawaii mountains are not alien to the winter climate.

A webcam of the University of Hawai showed snow on the ground along the railings of one of Mauna Kea’s astronomy observatories on Friday morning.

A slow motion pressure system makes its way through Hawaii before leaving later on Saturday, taking the snow to the peaks on Island Grande.

A winter weather warning was issued until 6:00 am, local time on Saturday.

The forecasts are asking for up to 2 inches of snow.

Hawaii’s mountains are mainly volcanoes, including Mauna Kea on Island Grande, whose summit is almost 14000 feet above sea level.

Mauna Kea is the highest mountain on the planet when measured from its base that extends under the bottom of the ocean.

While snow is not uncommon among the high peaks of Hawaii’s Great Island, one might think that snow would be made in April.

But in the last 20 years, the Grande Island has averaged approximately a snow notice in April.

Snow warnings have been issued until June.

That comes when Kilaueua, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, exploded for the 18th time since last December at the beginning of this week.

While the system will bring snow to the mountain peaks, that humidity will be simply with rain closer to sea level.

Thread temperatures will make it the 80s this weekend.
