There is no one better prepared to spill tea in the insidious Hollywood sexual mischief than the film producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.
He was barely out of his adolescence when he joined the agency William Morris as secretary in the early 80s.
“You know, people like Harvey Weinstein were not anomaly, they were the norm,” he mousing page six, “he was the wild and wild west.”
Goldsmith-Thomas has scandalous stories to tell after fighting the children’s club in Tenseltown to become an agent and guide stars races, including Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage and Madonna, before running studies.
It is now quite known as the producing couple of Jennifer López. The couple has collaborated in successes such as “Hustlers” and “Maid in Manhattan”, as well as the next “Kiss of the Spider Woman”.
Goldsmith-Thomas, 67, has resorted to his own experiences for his debut novel, “climbing in heels” (April 29), who follows three young people who work in one of Hollywood’s largest agencies.
He is already becoming a television program by Darren Star, the man behind “Sex and The City” and “Emily in Paris”. (Goldsmith-Thomas is a consultant producer in the latter).
In a book of the book, a male assistant, allowed to listen is in his boss having sex with actresses auditioning for paper.
“That was a story he had heard of an apprentice who was allowed to listen to how his boss,” Goldsmith-Thomas recalled. “That was his bonus … his little delight. His boss let him hear while he was actresses.”
It was López who pushed her friend to write, and the actress has the leg promotion book with Goldsmith-Thomas.
“Not only gave me a green light, but it really was a shame for not doing this. This is what you want to be and what you want to do,” said the producer about his famous friend.
“We should be limited by other people’s expectations. [Lopez] A lot. I think because she is not the only thing, people marginalize her. And she is extraordinarily talented. I hope people realize that she is a great person who is her. I mean, I think they do. It’s just that there is always a clique or thugs … “
Like Jackie Collins before her, Goldsmith-Thomas has loaded the book with a lot of sex, drugs and aim at Hollywood.
“He made me look back,” he said or his first days, when agents in Los Angeles would make their secretaries send cocaine through the country in something called “New York Bag that went to New York during the night.”
Remembering everything for the book, he added: “I realized how treacherous he ascends.”
Among the possible difficulties he had given was to be alone with Bill Cosby.
The comic, then one of William Morris’s biggest customers, launched a lunch for all secretaries as a gratitude for the success of his successful comedy “The Cosby Show”.
When the star asked the recent university graduate about his future plans, Goldsmith-Thomas said he would some day represent him.
“Later, I received a call from the executive secretary on the first floor saying: ‘Mr. Cosby was very impressed by you. And we are going to give you contracts to sign, take them to your hotel, the Beverly Wilshire,” he recalled.
“And I went to the bathroom, I was really excited to prepare. Oh my God, I felt seen, I felt really seen. And my friend who worked for the president of the agency was there. I said and she said:” Don’t do it. “I said, why?
“Now he didn’t say anything that Bath happened … there was something about the way he said enough that it was not.”
Cosby, now 87, is customary to be accused of rape, sexual aggression and sexual harassment for more than 60 women. He was convicted of an aggravated bleeding assault in 2018, but the conviction was overcome, and was released from prison in 2021. He has denied all accusations related to sexual crimes.
Goldsmith-Thomas lived through regular harassment at work. “I mean the boys in the mailbox, they would go,” hey, could you have a little Keppy? ” – That is, ‘Can I have a little [oral sex]? “I’ll go,” How can you ask me that? We are friends’ … ‘well, don’t ask, you don’t understand,’ they would say.
The men in charge had their legs in power since the 60s, he said. “When it really was” Mad Men “, when it was” Hello honey, put on your knees. “So, while they slapped the hands of the bad boys, they loved them secretly, he congratulated them.
“And certainly not all men were like that. But many were. I remember that there are many agents who would make fun of this apprentice who was gay. Meanwhile, they would call him at night.”
Goldsmith-Thomas also witnessed abuse of power towards the acarses that sought to enter the business.
“There was a casting sofa just to get to the agency,” he said. “An actress would enter and the casting director would ask me …” Is it fun? Is she tall? Is it sexy? “Well, she looks good.
When asked if the impact of #Metoo has made a lasting change in Hollywood, Goldsmith-Thomas said: “1000%. And it has changed it for men, I think it has changed it for everyone. [back then] – And well for them because it was incredible when you look back. “
It was Goldsmith-Thomas husband, so he said that Shee had Lopez in a movie and immediately desperate for signing the actress and the singer. Fate took a hand in 1998 when they with a Broadway presentation of the musical “Cabaret” star in the deceased Natasha Richardson (friend of Goldsmith-Thomas) and connected “at a very visceral level.”
“Jennifer is an extraordinary Balkan-A dancer who became an actor, who became a singer, who became a global brand, which is likely one of the biggest stars on earth and is an incredible girl,” said the “Ted Lasso” Mosos’ pink.
“I felt when I worked with Jennifer that a partner had: that she put her shoulder next to mine and that we pushed. It sounds fun, but the sky was the limit; it was a resting place.”
She is still extremely protective of the star, which was divided very public of her fourth husband, Ben Affleck, last summer.
“Sometimes, when I see that things are written about her, I want to call everyone and say: ‘God, you have it so bad. They have it so bad, she is a girl of a girl,” said the producer. “And she is the least critical person.”
While Goldsmith-Thomas bothers, López, he said, “does not immerse himself” in the stories of gossip.
“She won:” Yes, they are horrible. “Sometimes I just want him to leave.
