The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has announced a Easter truce in the conflict in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.

The unilateral cessation of hostilities will begin on Saturday at 6 pm local time (21:00 GMT) and runs until midnight on Monday, April 21, said Kremlin.

He added that he expected Ukraine to follow his example and cease all fireflows this period during Easter.
