After success in Chandrayaan and Military Jets, India should focus on passenger aircraft: Aerospace India Association

India should take decisive measures to develop its own passenger aircraft program, said Dr. Srinivasan Dwarakanath, general director of the Aerospace Association of India, at the International Conference on the future of aviation and the aerospace organized by Iim Bangalore on Saturday.

India currently exports more than $ 2 billion or aircraft microsemblies annually; The addition of value in these exports remains less than 30 percent. “This must move to approximately 60 percent,” said Dr. Dwarakanath. “We need to start overwhelming raw materials and build a robust ecosystem for aerospace design and manufacturing, with the maximum value of the addition of Indian players.” He added that India has demonstrated strong capacities in complex aerospace projects such as Chandrayan and the development of military aircraft. “Now is the time to manufacture indigenous airplanes, not necessarily on our own, but in association with the global OEMs,” he said.

Immense potential as global players fight to increase

Talking with Business lineDr. Dwarakanath explained that while Global OEMs such as Airbus and Boeing are struggling to increase production due to the limitations of the supply chain and the shortage of the workforce in the West, India has the potential to qualify the manufacturing center in the aerospace.

“The COVID-19-13 pandemic forced many aerospace colleagues to fire qualified workers, and shun or calm the Hasb leg, particularly in Europe and the United States. Quality has suffered due to the interruption of the supply chain. India, Turkey, Malaysia and South Korea to climb,” he explained. “But among all this, the group of talents in India is the greatest. That gives us a unique advantage.”

However, he emphasized the need for a clear policy roadmap for complete capitalization on this occasion. “We must make our MSME visible and integrate them into the global supply chain,” he added.
