The income of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Ltd (Tasmac) for the year that ended on March 31, 2025, increased 5.4 percent to ₹ 48,344 million rupees compared to ₹ 45,855 million rupees in the previous year. This is higher than income growth of 3.9 percent registered in 2023-24, but remains below the 22 percent increase seen in 2022-23.

In 2021-22, Tasmac’s revenues stood at ₹ 36,051 million rupees, which increased to ₹ 44,121 million rupees in 2022-23. Tasmac’s revenues in the last three years have increased by almost ₹ 12,000 million rupees, according to the policy note presented by V senthil Balaji, Minister of Electricity, Prohibition and Special Taxes, in the Assembly on Tuesday.
When addressing the issue of illicit liquor, the policy note said that the state government is committed to fighting the threat of illicit distillation, the sale and transport of illicit liquor and the sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. “The EB-CID together with the Commissioner for Prohibition and Special Tax are dedicated to guaranteeing the effective implementation of the State’s prohibition policy and special taxes,” he added.

Tasmac has 38 district offices, 43 deposits of foreign spirits of the Indians; 4,787 retail stores and 2,362 bars attached to retail stores. There are 250 local brands and other state brands in Tasmac, which includes 185 local liquor brands, 43 local beer brands, three local wine brands; Six other state brands of liquor; Five other state beer brands and eight other state brands, according to the policy note.
Tasmac sells 551 liquor brands imported from foreign countries, including 26 beer brands and 223 wine brands sold through a retail f11 license (malls/elite shop).
Purchase of empty liquor bottles
Tasmac also plans to expand the repurchase or liquor bottles program. Introduced in the Nilgiris district as of May 15, 2022, and then expanded to nine other districts, Tasmac will implement the repurchase scheme for the empty liquor bottle throughout the state. According to the scheme, the consumer who returns the empty liquor bottle will receive a reimbursement of ₹ 10 collected above the MRP, according to the policy note.
