RBI extends deadline for BIS-compliant note sorting machines to November

The Bank of the Reserve of India (RBI) has extended the timeline for the implementation of its instructions that require the banks to implement only those models of notes classification machine (NSM) that according to the standards issued by the desk of the Indian standards, until November 1, 2025.

These specific standards the performance and safety requirements of the NSMs to determine the authenticity and aptitude of the processed tickets.

These requirements include the criteria specified in the guidelines issued by the RBI from time to time, such as dirt, limb, dogs, tears, hoses, folds, etc., the machines of which the machines must be victims.

In order to further strengthen the architecture of classification of tickets throughout the country, the BIS, after the due consultation with the RBI and other interested parties, published the standards for NSMS on March 19, 2024.

In October 2024, the RBI declared that, as of May 1, 2025, banks must deploy only those NSM models that according to the aforementioned Indian standards and are duly certified by the BIS.
