Nineteen years ago, Mike Tannenbaum, directing his first draft as general manager of the NFL, used the first two jet selections in the first round in D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold.
Little could have known Tannenbaum at that time that Ferguson would handle the left Tackle position for the franchise for the next 10 years, starting in the 160 possible race games, and Mangold would play the next 11 as the headline of the team, 164 games.
The jets came from a 4-12 season in 2005 and, from that 2006 draft, Ferguson and Mangold not only helped the team win, but became generational players who helped the jets reach the playoffs in three of the next five seasons.
This is something that all Jet fans consider the last time the team arrived at the playoffs was in 2010 when Ferguson and Mangold were in the midst of their careers of respect.
