Hindalco delivers 10,000 EV battery enclosures to Mahindra from new Chakan facility

Hindalco Industries Ltd, the flagship of the metals of the Aditya Birla group, today announced the successful delivery of 10,000 aluminum battery enclosures to Mahindra for its electric SUVs of BE 6 and XEV. The company also presented its new EV component manufacturing installation in Chakan, Pune.

The shares of Hindalco Industries quoted ₹ 623, for ₹ 5.35 or 0.85 percent in the NSE today at 1.20 pm.

The avant -garde installation, built with an investment acres of 500 million rupees 5 acres, marks the entry of Hindalco into the EV components sector. It currently has the capacity to produce 80,000 annual enclosures, with double production plans to 160,000 units. Around 3,000 Mahindra EV that uses thesis aluminum batteries are already on the Indian roads.

According to the managing director of Hindalco, SáSH PAI, battery enclosures offer a weight reduction of up to 40 percent compared to traditional steel designs, improving the range of vehicles by 8-10 percent, while improving the safety of shock and thermal management.

The use of Chakan’s installation is almost all women as machine operators and is expected to generate up to 1,000 jobs, aligning with the ‘Make In India’ initiative of the Government.

Hindalco plans to expand their capacities to serve other Indian and global OEMs, offering aluminum components for electric and internal combustion motor vehicles as the EV Value chain of India continues to develop.
