Galen Rupp at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon; Deep thoughts on how you build a long term career!

8 Min Read

Galen RUPP is an iconic athlete in the American distance race. Now, at 30, Galen is looking at a race that has included four Olympic Games (2008, 2012, taking money at 10,000m, 2016, taking the bronze in the marathon and 2020, placing the eighth in the marathon). Galen Rupp won the Chicago Marathon in 2017, becoming the first American to win the Chicago Marathon in 35 years (that winner was Greg Meyer).

Galen is looking for another race at the Olympic Games. He hopes to be healthy and motivated for Olympic tests in Los Angeles 2028.

This was an event for a group of Nike Key influencers around the Chicago Marathon, where Nike is a sponsor. Galen RUPP, who is building his mileage once again, is looking for an autumn marathon in 2025. We talked in the Boston marathon in April 2025 in the company Sickreaut Run in Heartbreak Hill Running Company, with 900 or his friends in the closet.

Galen RUPP has evolved during the two more decades that I have known. I with Galen Rupp in Nike Border’s clash, when he won there (I think it was 2003). He would see Galen Rupp in several races over the years, and was always friendly.

Now, as 4 -year -old father, and husband, Galen Rupp has grown up. It has become a human being, someone who juggled with paternity, be a husband and build his ability to the elite marathon he was. Galen RUPP will know when he is ready. I have seen he run from the mile to the marathon. It was great to see Galen take money in the 10,000 meters in London, when his training partner, Mo Farah, won the gold. In Rio, this writer was there to witness his bronze medal in the marathon. Looking at him in Sapporo, in warm and humid conditions, Galen Rupp gave him everything he had. One always knows that Galen RUPP, when he runs, will leave nothing out there.

It is different to see an athlete who has run for 22 years. This writer interviewed Galen Rupp in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. In that interview, Galen Rupp talked about having a good training and being a dad. He was allowing himself to enjoy his life. Galen RUPP has matured and feels comfortable in his own skin.

This interview, conducted on the eve of the Chicago Bank of America Marathon, in a special Nike installation near the Hilton Hotel, the Hotel de la Headquarters for the Chicago Marathon. Galen Rupp answered questions from former Nike Communications chief, and then really provided some excellent observations about a man who has spent 24 years of training, running and living along the way. Galen RUPP is arriving at sunset of his career and chickens one more career towards the Olympic Games. Can you do it? This writer believes, if Galen is motivated and healthy, we will see it in the Los Angeles Olympic tests for the Marathon. We wish him luck on this trip.

This interview was recorded on my iPhone in October 2024, and Mike Deering conducted production. A special thanks to Cheyenne Wood, Nike Communications Manager, which is always very useful with our Nike Athletes coverage.

This is what I published when I added an edition to my Facebook publication in Galen’s interview on October 11, 2024:

“A real gift! Galen RUPP, London 2012 Silver Olympic Silver, 2016 Olympic Bronze River in the Marathon. In 2017, Galen Rupp won the Marathon América Chicago, the first American man to win Chicago since 1982 (Greg Meyer)!

Today, a small group of influencers for running received twenty minutes of fun data on Running, Chicago and Galen’s Philosophy or Running! After 4 Olympic teams, Galen focuses on a more Olympic (2028).

Galen RUPP underwent hip surgery last spring and focuses on running without injuries. Affable, relaxed, Galen told this writer that he likes to train as a volunteer in Nuu, and expects some short races in January, maybe a spring marathon!

The interview was conducted by Kennard McClellan, Nike director of APLA Communications, who knows his career. Galen and he were quite relaxed and the runners were totally interested. These are the son of the things Nike did in the old days, and something that should be more in the future, since they seek to defend the culture of culture with their brand. “

We registered with Galen Rupp on April 17, 2024, and hoped to run a marathon in autumn. Remember, in this interview, he noticed that he would love to compete with Chicago again in 2025. We wish him luck!
