Bannister Miles strengthens the force with another sub-four yield.

Oxford was on May 5 the second annual celebration of Bannister Miles with a cheerful community mile along the main street and 24 races of one mile on the athletic track of Iffley Road, with four men running less than four minutes in the elite race.

It was a northern invasion, since three came from Wirral, Salford and Preston. Like Bannister on May 6 in 1954, Joe Wigfield Tok, 25, is a clear advantage in the last round and crossed the tape at 3.56.64. Only one north wind is stopped from a track and a record of the British Miles Club. After being very behind were Jacob Cann, Harry Wakefiled and Tiaran Crorken, all running below 4 minutes. Tiarnan becomes the first man to run twice under the 4 -minute barrier at Iffley Road.

Two athletes from the University of Oxford in Elite’s career, Alex Gruen and Nicholas Whittaker, arrived in 4.04.11 and 4.05.29. The song now has eight sub-four in two years, since they were executed in the previous 70 years!

It was Cambridge’s victory in the female elite race, since Holly Dixon or Cambridge Harriers crossed the line in 4.40.05, ahead of Hannah Cameron or Aberdeen.

Almost 300 athletes participated, many achieving the best personal results. The celebration included for Races and the novel of a mile of Steeplechase.

Thomas Renshaw, organizer of the event for the Field Club through the University, said: “The celebration goes from strength.

The second annual mile Bannister Community Mile saw waves and waves of runners sweeping the main street and ending in Iffley Road, picking up finishing medals on the Sir Roger Bannister track. Chris Thompson, who represented GB in the 2020 Olympic Marathon, touched the initial horn with his son Theo. One of Roger Bannister’s great -nable, Saskia Towsend, 6, ran in the family wave with her father, Barnaby Towsend. A former Oxford student who saw Mile’s original career, David Picksley, 92, also completed the mile.

The track races were organized in the new and bright blue song that has just built the university.
