Kerala sets up drafting committee to revise 2008 state IPR policy

The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSte) has constituted a writing committee to review its existing DPI policy (intellectual property rights). This occurs after having presented its own policy in 2008 and Center followed by publishing a national DPI policy in 2016, ordering all state councils that prepare DPI policies at the state level.

The members of the Drafting Committee to review the state policy include N Anilkumar, president of the Biodiversity Board of the State of Kerala; A Sabu, member-secretary, KSCSte; KC Sunny, Professor of Law, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod; RS Praveen Raj, main scientist, National Institute of CSIR for interdisciplinary science and technology, Thiruvananthapuram; Narendran Taruthy, Assistant Professor, Rajiv Gandhi or IP Law, IIIT-Kharagpur; and Binuja Thomas, main scientist, KSCSte.

Designed Nodal Agency

The IP-Kerala Rights Information Center has been designated as Nodal Agency or Matters and Services related to DPR in the State. It will act as an advisory center and also frame policies/rules related to DPI and the related issue, said a government order. Since the State’s policy was very presented ahead of the national DPI policy and many changes have since had KSCSte, KSCSte has proposed to review it by incorporating several components also covered in national policy.
