Pope Francis, First Latin American Pontiff, Dies at 88

Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff who won hearts with his humility and focuses on the poor, caused criticism of conservatives to challenge capitalism and denial of climate change: he has died, at age 88.

He had a leg fighting chronic pulmonary disease and was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 for a respiratory crisis that became double pneumonia. He spent 38 days, the longest hospital stay of his 12 -year -old papacy.
