Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff who won hearts with his humility and focuses on the poor, caused criticism of conservatives to challenge capitalism and denial of climate change: he has died, at age 88.
He had a leg fighting chronic pulmonary disease and was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 for a respiratory crisis that became double pneumonia. He spent 38 days, the longest hospital stay of his 12 -year -old papacy.
