Washington – Francisco Alvarez’s initial impact on this alignment of the Mets felt on Saturday.
In one day, his team struggled to find any son of offensive rhythm, the receiver, in his second game as a return of the Kured list, assumed the responsibility of delivering great success.
Álvare’s two-run homer served as the offensive of the Mets in a 2-0 victory over nationals.
The Mets won for the eighth time in nine games, the rebound after their seven -game winning streak broke a night before.
Luis Torrens filled the void in the receiver when Álvarez rehabilitated surgery to eliminate a broken hamate bone from his left hand.
But as much skill as Torrens brings to the defensive position, it is the 23 -year -old potential, offensively, what separates it from most receptors.
Álvarez hit 25 homers as a rookie two years ago before falling last season, perhaps committed by surgery in April to repair a ligar from the torn left thumb.
Álvarez hit a two-run homer in the second entrance to give the METS a 2-0 advantage. Álvarez jumped on a Brad Lord sliding control and cut a shot inside the right -handed lack of lack of field after Jesse Winker had delivered a two outs single.
In his debut in the season a night before, Álvarez was 1 by 4 on the plate and threw a corridor trying to steal the second base.
The Mets (19-8) have another concern for the injury after Aj Munter left the mound in the eighth entry into Inquort. The left -hander, working a second consecutive day, took one at the entrance. Max Kranick recorded the last two outs before Edwin Díaz, launching for the first time since he left Wednesday’s game with a left hip cramp, won the rescue with a ninth without goals.
Clay Holmes gave the METs what they needed: five goals without which allowed four hits and struck out two. The right, which was removed after 70 launches, lowered its effectiveness to 2.64.
Only that the Mets could get so far with Holmes was an advantage after a rain delay in the first entrance. Holmes used 46 minutes among the releases but returned strong. He did not allow an extra-base blow and removed 10 or 11 batters to complete his excursion.
It was a third consecutive beginning for Holmes in which it allowed a career won or less. But the Mets would like an additional length of Holmes (which has made the transition from a reliever to the start this season). Three openings, Holmes lasted only five entries in two of his.
Danny Young struck out three batters as part of a sixth without goals before Reed obtained the Mets during the seventh unharmed. Garrett allowed two singles at the entrance, but with the draw races on the retired Dylan and José Tena teams.
The Mets left two runners at the base in the third against Lord, who withdrew Brandon Nimmo for the final after Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso had connected at the entrance.
Lindor hit a blow to the fifth, his third single in the game, before Juan Soto was retired in a squad against the receiver. Soto was 0 by 4 to follow a two -hits performance on Friday. Jeff McNeil was the entrance with a single, but Luisangel Acuña was based on a double play before Lindor’s Bunt single.
