Jeanie Buss said the secret was the main reason why the surprising trade of Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis passed.
The owner of the Lakers revealed Thursday that if the agreement between the Lakers and the Mavericks was leaked in advance, it was likely that the trade had gone to Bone.
“I have the feeling that if it was leaked, the exchange would probably have not happened, and for so many different reasons,” Buss told Rob Pérez and Antonio Daniels on the NBA Siriusxm radio. “People who work against us, that wouldn’t want trade to happen.”
Buss also said that commercial leaks had previously prevented the Lakers from making potential movements, adding that management had to change its focus with the maid-davis box office success.
“Keeping things a secret is very, very important,” Buss continued. “Our circle is tight because the years, we had problems with the things that leaked, and that interrupted the plans and caused some problems in our basketball operations.
“Finally, we get rid of the problem. Now we can keep things a secret when we chose. I really learned a lesson there that you should always do our best for the organization because everyone has their angle.”
Almost no one out of management for the Lakers and Mavericks knew about the possible trade in advance, leaving Doncic, 26, and Davis, 32, surprised by the news.
LeBron James did not have an idea of the trade in advance, according to the reports, discovering dinner with his family after the Lakers-Knicks game on February 1, according to ESPN.
The privileged information Charania, who first reported the exchange, said the Mavericks communicated with the Lakers about the trade several days before.
“This agreement materialized in the shadows. This came out of nowhere,” said Chariana in February. “LeBron James had no idea that this was going to come. Anthony Davis had no idea that this would come.
“They told me that Luka Doncic is still surprised by this trade.”
