Israel’s last plan to displace people in northern Gaza has caused a new wave or despair among Palestinian civilians in the territory, many of Wham have already been displaced several times since the war.
The displacement plan would aggravate an already humanitarian situation in Gaza, where hunger has shot since Israel imposed a blocking of help supplies in March, which led to the United Nations to notice this week of a “growing humanitarian catastrophe.”
“We do not want to hear the word ‘evacuation’ again, Mr. Jneed said his family had already been displaced at least six times since the war began in October 2023.
“Displacement means death, humiliation, lack of housing,” Jneed added.
Mr. Jneed is likely to be among the first affected by Israel’s plan to capture large sections of Gaza and force those who live there to move south. Israeli authorities said Monday they called tens of thousands of military reservists to promulgate the expansion of war. Israeli leaders say they expect the campaign to press Hamas to commit to stagnant ceasefire negotiations, and release the hostages he still has in Gaza.
Israel’s announcement has had the opposite effect, at least initial. A Hamas spokesman said Tuesday that the group was no longer interested in participating in Alto El Fuego negotiations.
All this has contributed to a more deep sense of gloom among Gazán’s civilians. Wafa Al-Gainty, 35 years old, accountant and mother of five children, said she had been displaced seven times since the beginning of the war. Now he is taking refuge in a tent in a coastal area or in southern Gaza.
“The situation is extremely challenging, not only because of repeated displacement, but for hunger and impotence of not even providing a bread bar,” Mrs. Al-Ghouty said in an interview. “Every time we look, we are forced to move again.”
Mrs. Al-Ghouty said she planned to cook her last bag or pasta in 24 hours. “Sometimes we are so focused on surviving, finding food and medicine for children, that we miss the news,” he said. “But this announcement hit like lightning.” She said she had already packed a small bag with her children’s clothes and the key documents, preparing for what she can come later.
Almost two months have passed since Israel broke the stop the fire in Gaza in March, and resumed his military campaign after Alto Fire conversations broke. The renewed assault has brought almost daily air attacks and in increasing land operations, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries. The conformity with the United Nations, more than 1.9 million people, the majority of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since the war.
The humanitarian situation has worsened significantly in recent weeks due to Israel’s blockade in help supplies. Most bakeries are no longer operational, food stocks are exhausted and medical supplies are critically low. Israel has argued that its blockade is legal and that Gaza still has enough notable provisions.
Mr. Jneed said he was struggling to provide basic needs for his two children. The family now survives in a single meal a day.
“Every time that passes is worse than the previous one,” he said.
