Pope Francis has died, the Vatican has announced in a video statement.
The first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church died at the age of 88 at 7:35 am (05:35 GMT) on Monday, Cardinal Kevin Farrell said in a statement published by the Vatican on his Telegram channel.
Francis had suffered several ailments in his 12 -year -old papacy, with serious complications in recent weeks after a double fight or pneumonia for which he spent five weeks in the hospital.
His death occurs a day after an appearance of a letter before thousands of Catholic pilgrims met in the Plaza de San Pedro for the Mass of the Easter on the outdoor of the Vatican.
